More Coffee Than Cat:  Review of Petit Cat Cafe

Tough to find appears to be the standard when it comes to cat cafes in China, and Petit Cat Cafe is no exception.

It took quite an effort to arrive at this lane house coffee shop, near the corner of South Shaanxi Road and Huaihai Middle Road, as our initial source indicated it was on North Shaanxi Road.  After a bit of investigation, we found it only to sadly discover there were just two cats 'on duty'.  

Don't get me wrong, Petit is a lovely place.  Located on a  quiet street, it is immaculately clean, sweetly decorated and relaxing.  But with two kitties, it's way more cafe than cat.

We were cheered by the fact that the owner is a very kind and amiable man.  He is definitely doing something right; the cafe was full as he showed us to the last table.  He suggested their specialty strawberry cake, so we ordered one along with two cafe lattes, which were all beautifully presented.  The menu contained a variety of hot and cold drinks, including beer, as well as cake.  Once served, we turned our attention to the cats. 

There was a youngish cat with lots of energy prowling the lower level and entertaining all of the patrons, taking turns going by each table.  Eventually, I made my way upstairs where I found the other cat, a shy ginger that tolerated a few strokes on his head.  I was surprised to see the there was also a nail salon up there!

The friendly proprietor, well-presented food/drinks and nice overall vibe helped me overlook the lack of cat in this cat cafe.
